I thought today was Wednesday. Between Independence Day celebrations and late-night sessions painting decorations for Fiesta!, I've entirely lost track of what day it is. (How could I forget, though, that Big Brother All-Stars is on tonight?! Judge me, if you must, but I have watched every season of Big Brother and I'm ridiculously excited about a new season. Stop looking at me like that.)
Today, though, is Official Thursday Weigh-In and I am delirious with joy because my official weight (according to my digital scale from Target) is 197 pounds! I am skipping through Onderland! I have lost 29.4 pounds since Easter.
And last night, while waiting (rather impatiently) for my daughter's bedtime, I tried on a skirt that didn't fit before (though it says size 18--what is up with that?!), and two pairs of pants and they all fit and zipped. The pants were a size 14, which is obviously a mislabel, Ralph Lauren just flattering the fat girls, but they zipped up. (The disturbing thing, though, was how the pants smooshed up a frightening doughy waddle of flesh above the waistband. Scary.)
Well. Let's clear that image from your minds! Um, let's think about a stawberrry, perfectly shaped and ruby red. Or, uh, a clean house, including fresh sheets on the beds! Or a tropical island where no children are allowed.
Okay. Now, tell me. How are you doing? Losing weight? Making better choices? Any tips to share with your fellow shrinking moms?
We are moments away from naptime here at the Amazing Shrinking House and I, for one, can't wait . . .for them to sleep so I can sip my Diet Coke with Lime in peace.
Oh, and you're saying, "Wait, Amazing Shrinking Mom!" (Please, call me Mel.) "Wait, Mel! How can we win a ClubMom prize? Tell us! Tell us!"
I have to put a baby to bed. Stay tuned. I'll be back later with all the exciting details!

The exact same thing happened to me with a pair of denim shorts that didn't used to fit. I put them on, they zippered up nicely, but the horror of the bulge that appeared above the waistband! What is up with that?
I find that as I am incorporating more weights into my workouts, I am feeling much better. Since one of my goals is to build up my lean muscle mass in order to burn more calories "at rest" I'm pleased with the results.

Congradulations! I have very little to add to your efforts. I went from 265ish to 205 in about a year. I made a deal with a friend at work to get down to 199 and its almost impossible. I've gotten to 202 and it bounces around that number. I've enjoyed the extra exercizing that I've gotten into since this effort started.

Congrats! (Oh, and how am I doing? uhhh...ummm...well, I'm eating more fruit and trying to stay away from cookies and such. Ice cream is my downfall. I can't go cold turkey on anything just yet since I'm still nursing. Or is that just an excuse?)

Woo-hoo for you! Woo-hoo for you! Missie sings as she dances her fat, white, no-rhythm self around the living room. (Now THAT'S an image you might wanna erase from the old memory banks!)
Yay for Onderland! I am getting close to the scale reading 1*9, and NO I AINT TELLIN THE MIDDLE NUMBER NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU BEG BUT I MIGHT IF YOU GIVE ME A PRIZE, oh, sorry. Anyway, I am looking forward to finally seeing that middle number be what it aint been for lo these many moons. Yay us.
Oh, and you may not know it, but Skinny Cow brand Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream bars are way good and not high in calories or fat. Just FYI for all the chocoholics out there.

Congratulations! I am enjoying reading your success and tips. My husband and I are doing morning work outs (with weights) and eating more protein/complex carbs. We've been doing it four weeks, and I'm excited that I can fit in pants next size down--but they are a tiny bit too tight if I sit in them for too long, so I don't feel I'm quite there yet!

I've been having fun reading your blog, and found out we have the same short-term goal - to weigh what our driver's licenses say we weigh! Mine is 185, which seems like an impossible goal right now. Congratulations on your amazing loss! And tell me, Amazing Shrinking Mom, how do you get your kids to nap?? My son gave up his naps about a year ago, about the same time I gave up a little bit of sanity.

Love your blog...I was reading through the archives and thought you might have been peaking in my brain (Ew, get out!) Ha ha, everything is funny at midnight. Congrats on your success and one question: how do you keep on track when your family eats the dreaded white stuff. I have tried eating differently than my family and never seem to make it. Like today :)

Yay! Mel, you deserve to celebrate.
That over the waistband goosh is just evil. Pure evil. I think I could name mine, and maybe claim it as a dependant on taxes. Hmm...

Isn`t it wonderful to fit into clothes that you couldn`t fit into only months (weeks?!) before. I have a whole new wardrobe in my own closet!
I too have the "Driver`s License Weight" goal and am currently 7kg down and only 5kg (oops...Canadian here!) away. I love your blog and the great tips there-in. Thank you!

Mel,
Way to go!!!!! Isn't it an awesome feeling? I lost 50 pounds after college (I had gained about 20 in college) about 5 years ago, and I've been able to keep it off through constantly changing my exercise routine and for the past year, eating all organic, natural foods, a mix of protein and "good" carbs (since I'm a "mixed" metabolic type). Have you read The Maker's Diet by Jordan Rubin? I think it would be a great help to you. I think one of the greatest myths we believe in eating healthy is that fat is bad for you. But only the bad fats (partially hydrogenated, which is found in almost all processed foods and margarine!) do that to you...and we actually need the good fats. I found that I built a lot more muscle and lost more weight once I embraced that fact. I KNOW it's not easy!!! Congrats on your progress!! :)

I've been reading your blog and just want to say congrats! on your weight loss! Way to go! The problem I have is, I need to lose about 15 pounds and the harder I try, the more the scale is creeping up! What's up with that??? Anyway, because of your blog, I tried Diet Coke with Lime and I just want to say THANK YOU!! It is actually sweet enough to calm my sweet tooth.. for no calories! It's also on sale at Safeway this week for $3/case... yum.

aw Mel!! i wanted to come here yesterday and congratulate you, but the post wasn't up yet! argh!!
but yayyyy for being in Onederland!! :D :D (though, that words looks really funny spelled out ;P)
i sadly haven't made any progress, but then, how could i expect to when i haven't really tried? :( and the ONE day at work when i REMEMBER to weigh myself on the huge scale, it's, like, not there. so that was weird....
but i'll check for it again this afternoon, and then get to work on ridding myself of this gutttt.

Have the biddies at church noticed yet?

Yeeeeehaa! I'm so excited for you! I remember that feeling so well! What a great day to be back in the 1--'s. My scale is evil, very evil. I've been making the mistake of weighing every day and my scale is really stuck. I've been very diligent and strict with my eating and it's just not doing anything. So. No more weighing until Sunday morning in my skivvies. I'm sure I'll see a change then. Keep it up Mel!
Oh, and I agree with one of the previous posters. When kids give up naps it shaves a little sanity off the top. All of my kids are too big to nap, which doesn't mean that I don't need the quiet! Sometimes I just wish they'd all go away just for an hour so I could rejuvenate.

I am coming to you by way aggiejenn. I recently strated WW, almost 2 weeks ago. We were supposed to weigh in on Monday but they cancelled the meeting because of the 4th. So, I will weigh in on Monday. According to my scales here I have lost about 3 pounds. I am eating so much better and feel alot healthier. I am praying that this becomes a simple way of life for me. I am definately going to add you to my daily reads. You are surely an inspiration. Thanks!

Congratulations! Very good news! Have a big heaping plate of whatever low-starch veggies you like, on me!
I've recently come off the weight loss plateau I've been on by adding weight training back into my exercise. Down two pounds from just last week.
I actually think I'd been losing fat/gaining muscle prior to that, if only through incidental resistance training from pedaling a bike & walking up hills, because I was getting a little trimmer. Had to punch another new hole in my belt a couple of weeks ago. But it's good to see fat loss reflected in lower scale weight again too.
(I'm BTW the "other" Mel from the lowglycemiceating list. http://terveys.blogspot.com/)
