So, yeah. Um, hate to rain on the celebratory parade around here, but I gained weight. I'm up to 171.8 pounds, which sucks, totally and completely, but that's what happens when you single-handedly eat a Costco-sized bag of pistachios over the course of a week while coping with the stress of being sick and premenstrual and adjusting back to normal life as the mother of four children, including two boys who turned 14 on Sunday (hello, Costco-sized chocolate cake) who happen to be DRIVING ME CRAZY at this very moment while they are supposed to be taking an algebra test. (Lucky for all of us that this computer is not equipped with a microphone.)
Sometimes, it's disappointing to be me.
On the other hand (thank God for two hands), I'm repentant and remorseful and the pistachios are gone and I will never again buy that giant-sized bag because clearly I've proven that I cannot be trusted around vast quantities of pistachios or chocolate-covered almonds. What was I thinking?
I see this as a minor fluctuation, a temporary setback, a reminder that I do not have all the answers, nor have I won the war quite yet.
Also, I'd like to offer a set of slightly used 14-year old twin boys to the highest bidder.
Oh, and now it's your turn to weigh in. Go!

I found you through Cindy Swanson's TT today. Congratulations on your weight loss. Both my daughter and I need to lose some weight - probably 35 lbs or so, but it's so hard to do, especially for my daughter. She has 4 kids, all on the go, plus she works full time. I don't have an excuse except just haven't stuck to a plan to do it. And, I haven't been exercising.

I am up as well. I had surgery 2 weeks ago and haven't been able to exercise. Can't shake the guilty feelings even though my gain isn't due entirely to my choices. I know it is a temporary setback, but it still smarts. 259. Bleh.

I'm up a wee bit as well. Don't know why, but I get sick, I eat. Like you, seeing it as a temporary fluctuation. Back on track today. And I started my own weightloss blog to help keep me accountable.

Hi, just came over from Cindy. Astonished to see someone with your particularly spelling of your name; I have a close friend with the same. Congrats on all you're doing, and I'm with you on the chocolate covered nuts.

You just went to a ballgame...and you fit comfortably in the seat. Think about it..There is still some cheering to do.

This is the dreaded plateau...if you haven't changed up your cardio routine yet, its the best way to plow through this. You can always cut back, but that's no fun!
Anyway, for inspiration, keep looking at your before/after pics.:)

Do they do yardwork? (If so, I'll take 'em!)
I lost 4 pounds this week. My current weight is 223.6.

Hi Mel,
I've been reading for quite awhile now and I just wanted to say congrats on your weight loss. I need to lose about 50 pounds and I keep wishing I would've stuck to the "change of life" I too started last year. I also wanted to say.....your picture from the ball game? WOW!!! You look so fantastic! You're a real inspiration.

I'm at 127.6.... Nothing like a little bit of Bronchitis to stimulate weight loss even when you can't move a muscle! I hope to return to excercise (and the land of the living) very soon.

Girl, pistachios are great, but so salty I'll bet some of that weight is water...it'll come off. Found your blog, really like it and I'll go vote for you tonight. Good luck!!
(I have four kids, too. My prayers are w/ you ;))

Down to 208 - yay! Will keep after it, warding away the snack demons.

I realized this week too that eating from hunger is not usually my biggest problem...eating from boredom and stress, now that is my biggest problem. But I was down 2 pounds at weigh in this week. I agree with the thought, just don't buy stuff to keep in the house that is going to be hard to resist. That is just setting yourself up for failure!
It's a new week!

Dude. I am SO on a plateau this week. I didn't lose an ounce! (Well, maybe an ounce, but not enough to measure.)
Hmph.

Uhh, don't put me in the contest, I have enough!!! hehehe
I am still around 167. Looks like the day I was over 170 was only for a day! Glad to still be in the 160's. I will be going for our long walk in the park tomorrow!

Still 175 this week but due to TOTM not surprised. HOWEVER I went into a shop yesterday to buy a skirt and the one I picked up was too big and the one I eventually bought was a size 14 (UK sizes - I think that might be a 10 or a 12 in US sizes??) Anyway - I haven't been in a 14 for decades, so I am well pleased. I am wearing it now, and smirking slightly!

Hey Mel,
Life happens, doesn't it? You're looking at this the right way, it's a bump in the road, not a train wreck. I sometimes find that I don't really want food, I just want to chew, so I keep a lot of sugar-free chewing gum on hand. Don't forget to consider all the good changes you have made in your life, success will follow! XO

I'm still at 157! What a surprise. I've been making bad decisions though.
Two days ago I committed to 30 days of exercise and Bible reading. We'll see if I can stick it like you have for over 200 days!

Hey Mel, I'll trade you the two twin 14 year old boys for a Highly Hormonal 15 going on 25 year old girl"!

Mel -- You may have had this setback this one week, but I just looked at some before and after pictures that are INCREDIBLE!!!! You are doing such a great job and being such an inspiration. Hang in there. In no time you'll be heading in the right direction. Onward and upward (or maybe I should say downward).

Congratulations on getting back on the right track Mel. Sometimes I worry that after just one treat I will lose control of my sugar cravings. Then the entire week after Easter I was "off my diet," being at Mom & Dad's for my kids' spring break. Throughout the week, Mom made caramel brownies, white cake, chocolate cake, cinnamon rolls, lemon bars and several kinds of Jell-O "salads". And that was just the desserts. Sigh. Any wonder why I have a rather large sweet tooth?
Anyway, as of Monday I was back to my house and my healthy foods, and I am down to 140 pounds! Yay!

I gained this week too, after my all time low of 149.5 I'm back up to 150.5. I'm bummed, but I've only got myself and my three year old's birthday to blame. I've really been slacking on the eating recently, and I think it's finally come back to haunt me. I've got to get back on track tomorrow. While I am very happy to weigh what I do, and I feel better, every time I see a photo I know that I could look much much better if I dropped another 10 pounds. I've grown complacent now that my "regular" clothes fit and I feel good about myself. You've written about this too. I need to think of swim suits, other items that would look much better on me if I weighed less and also I need to concentrate of how much better I would feel.

Hi, Could you add me to your dieter friend blogs or your naked dieting thing? I don't want to give a first name at this time... too ashamed of my weight! But I started a blog and if people read it I will be more faithful to keeping it up and keeping my weight down (I hope). My address is http://myplanjustfortoday.blogspot.com. Please check it out and thank you!!!

Sorry about that Mel... Nuts can be a big problem issue for me...so few are just too many calories...and who wants like 7 almonds or cashews at a time?
Actually my weight is down this morning...two reasons...AF is over and I missed exercising for two days last week. When I miss exercising I lose...guess my muscle mass starts shrinking quickly?
Wierd, huh?

I cannot be trusted around a bag of the baked Goldfish crackers, the noncheese flavor. I will be so good counting out only a few, writing down my points, and eating them slowly....then the monster emerges and before I know it, I've gone all "Cookie Monster" and snarfed the whole thing down.
And if you find someone to take your boys, ask them if they also want an 11 yo old one who is driving me nutso. We could make them a 3 for 1 special.
