Ever wonder how some people stay slim without fretting and obsessing over every bite they eat? Here's are "8 Secrets of the Naturally Slim" courtesy of "Prevention" magazine, via MSN's "Health & Fitness" website.
Check it out and let me know which tip you like the best. Personally, I like tip number five: "They're creatures of habit . . . their diets are fairly predictable."

#1 hit home for me. I am notorious for stuffing myself to the gills rather than stopping when I feel satisfied. The sick thing is, I'm aware I'm doing it. Most times I acknowledge that I'm full, but I'll tell myself, "There's only a few bites left - I must press on!" This is definitely something I need to work on. I also liked #5.

I liked they choose satisfied over stuffed and that eating is not an emergency. Half the time i do not get to lunch because I forget and get busy with the kids. I also can tell when I am getting stuffed and I hate the feeling of that sharp pain in my back, because I ate to much it is just not worth it. Thankfully have not had the sharp pain in the back for a very very long time. I think the last time I had it is when I was prego with the twins.

I can personally identify with the one about eating more because you don't get enough sleep. But I think the major difference is really #1, choosing satisfied over stuffed.

I like number 2: hunger isn't an emergency. It's not? I love that thought: that there's no need for 911 of the fridge as soon as hunger pangs hit. It's been a while since I've allowed myself to actually feel hungry. When I was pregnant with my last child I felt sick every time I felt hungry, so I never let myself get hungry. I guess I got into the habit then, and it's hard to break. Now that's it's been 15 years since my last pregnancy, maybe it's time to break the habit!

PS I'm back in the loop...been out of it for a while, but I'm back now...back to keeping up with the forum too!

Wow...what a great article! I can't pick just one, they all ring true with me.

I also like the "hunger is not an emergency" one. I too need to put off having a snack a few times a day, and more often than not I didn't really need it anyway. Thanks for the link!

The sleep habit is the one that resonated with me. You know how much trouble I've had with sleep, and I'm convinced that contributes to my weight problem. I'm sleeping pretty well these days (with the help of medication) and I think it's no coincidence that I'm having more success with my weight loss.
I have a book on my shelf called The Ten Habits of Naturally Slim People by Jill Podjasek. It's probably time to dust it off and give it a reread.

Hi Mel-
Haven't visited your site in a little while and have to CONGRATULATE you! After photo is awesome! I never had the time/nerve (pick your excuse) to sign on to diet naked with you but after trying it on my own w/o the results I wanted - I am buying The GI diet from Amazon after I write this. I have from now until I receive the book to build up the time/nerve to join, right? I voted for you and hope you win!!! Good Luck!

That rule about eating predictably is one of the strong suggestions in "You, On A Diet." They contend that variety is a stimulant, so try to eat two "normal" meals per day.
