I weigh 170. I think this may be a one pound loss from last week, but the past six months of this diet have been a lot of up and down one, two, three pounds. No significant losses.
And so, with a bunch of you by my side, I'm going to embark on a 10 day Fitday Challenge. Here's how it will work:
1) Get a Fitday.com account, if you don't already have one.
2) Enter your daily intake and exercise on Fitday.com.
3) On the bottom of the Home page, you'll find a way to make your journal public.
4) Leave the link to your public journal in the comments. I'll leave a link to my journal in a blog entry each day.
That's it! The Fitday Challenge starts TOMORROW, Friday.
I must ask that we all refrain from criticizing what other people choose to eat. That is one thing about using Fitday that makes me a little queasy . . . the idea that others might sit in judgment over my choice to eat popcorn instead of dinner some night. This weight-loss thing is a journey and we do not need anyone throwing stones at us as we find our way along the path. (I'm sure I don't even need to say all that, but be nice, okay?)
And now, weigh in! And tomorrow, prepare to show us your Fitday journal!
Oh, and one more thing. Someone here (Sarah?) told me about this site, Dietfacts.com, which allows you to look up a food item (including restaurant items!) and then automatically add them to your Fitday.com journal. (Click on the food item and scroll down . . . see the button that says "Fitday"?) This is so cool that I am actually looking forward to using Fitday in conjunction with Dietfacts!

Hello Mel, WTG!!!! on your weight loss. I am sorry I didn't weigh in last week. I lost track of time because of trying to get everything ready for school. I did lose last week I was 189.6 and today I am down to 188.8. WTG to those who continued to lose for those that didn't keep trying you will succeed REMEMBER YOU ARE WORTH IT!!!!

Pregnant gal weighing in: 168 lbs. today, at 27 weeks, for a total gain of 23 lbs. so far. Not great, but not terrible either.
I REALLY hope no one would stoop so low as to criticize someone else's food choices, but I'm glad you mentioned it. I, too, am just the slightest bit concerned about others tsk-tsking my journal--but I'm sure that's an irrational worry. Who HASN'T eaten popcorn (or worse!) instead of dinner?
Also, a note on Dietfacts.com: if you're going to use the "Add to FitDay" button, make sure you have "cookies" enabled on your computer.

I'm joining you on the FitDay challenge Mel!

I was at 184.2 today for a total loss of 6 pounds. Very happy!!!!!
As for a dinner of popcorn, yeah it might not be the healthiest but it certainly beats out the large bag of ruffle and pint of ice cream I have in the past chosen for my dinner :(

Thank you for that awesome Dietfacts link!

I am at 190.5. Down from 191.5, total loss of 28 lbs. I plan on being in the 180's next week. I am not sure about the Fitday thing. I hate getting too rigid. I am afraid I will say forget it and give it all up. I will check out the site and decide from there.

Hey Melodee and friends! I'm so thrilled that you like my website, DietFacts.com. I initially started it to help my dad better manage his diabetes, and it continues to be a labor of love.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are having trouble locating nutrition info for a particular item. I'll be happy to try and help.
Good luck to you all!

Hi Mel - I signed up for a Fitday account but haven't quite figured out the public thing. But I will join you on your quest. My reunion is only about 2 weeks away!!
I can see why you might worry about people criticizing your food choices but I don't think any of your readers are going to do that. As for me, I don't really give a shit what people think about my food choices.
Oh - and I guess this is the Thursday weigh in spot? I don't know - anyway, I weigh 161. Goal is 140 for me. Then I plan to promptly get knocked up.
Have a good weekend.

184! My lowest weight since 2003! But don't ask me what I had for lunch today. =P

I am still at 192 for the second week. The scale needle has been up and down and all around. It's PMS city for me. More than likely it will drop soon.

Blech, I think I am copying you, bouncing up and down! About 170ish this week.

Ok here i go, i am 197, lost 8lbs so far. this is exciting. i hope doing this will help me loose more weight, faster.

I'm at 159 this week, so I guess that's better than where it was. I do have a request though...would you remove one of the 'current weight' listings...because I'm confusing myself. And that is EASILY done. Thanks!!! :)

I hope you'll accept a newbie. I've been a lurker here for months but I'm ready to get serious again. I just signed up at fitday and I'm posting my current weight at 218. I lost 17lbs from April to June (started at 235) but I only maintained this summer. I'm hoping that this will jumpstart me again.
Posted by: Cori | August 30, 2007 at 04:29 PM
I weighed in this morning... I may or may not be down a pound so I'll stick with what I signed in with the other day... 177
I'm in on FitDay... I tried DietFacts... love the fact that you can add to FitDay but it won't work if DietFacts doesn't have enough info for FitDay. I have used CalorieKing in the past to look up all my sinning calories at McD's and Starbucks. They have most things I'm looking for but you have to manually transfer it to FitDay.
I went ahead and updated my FitDay for today (at least as much as I can remember) since I was already there looking up the McD's Iced Coffee that I LOVE and will miss when I go sugar-free on Tuesday.

I'm having to fight the urge to write in all caps here, because for the first time in about two months, I have good news!
I lost 2.5 pounds this week! I'm down 79 total to 158!
Wohoo!

Hi Mel... same weight: 215 AND I feel all bloaty and junky (you know, *that* time)....
I'll join the fitday challenge... I'm so happy to hear about that website, since I hate searching and finding the foods (or having to break things down)! Here's my journal:

OK, I comment all the time and yet I have never weighed in on here. I just got a FitDay account and I'll go ahead and just spit out the numbers I'm trying to avoid now.
189
I can't even believe I'm back up to that now.
Goal weight 155-160.
More tomorrow! And, thanks for doing this.

174.0 today, down 1.2, lowest since 2002.
Joined fitday.com yesterday, and will have to watch what I eat and do from tomorrow onwards, which is just what I need to get back on track wholeheartedly.
I agree with not commenting negatively on what others eat, today I ate only 1200 calories of which 200 was 4 chocolate covered small biscuits at 50 cal. each and I enjoyed every calorie! (It was for breakfast)

Mel - a loss is a loss, yes? I am thrilled to be down to 244.2 this week. FitDay's working, that's for sure. I am going to California for the holiday weekend, so I won't be able to log, but I'd like to do the challenge, and I can fill in on Tuesday, when we get home. And I concur on the no commenting part. I love popcorn for dinner! One of the best parts about being a grown up. Here's my journal:

I'll join in (remember - I've used this tool for a year) since my two weeks of "new hospital orientation" have permitted too many bagels. I've hovered over three pounds for a few months and need some motivation to cut back a bit to see if that is the problem.
Don't forget - you can add your own favorite foods, too.

Here is the link to my journal. I don't always write much but I am brutally honest with myself about what is going on and what is sabotaging my weight loss plans. I don't totally believe the calorie counts that fitday gives for exercise but......Anyway, down another half pound this week to 191.4

I weighed 169 yesterday which was really exciting - haven't seen 160s in a looong time - but couldn't believe it so I stepped off and back on and it said 173. Sigh. Not sure which is right, but I suspect it's the 173 based on my eating. That would be a gain of 1 pound.
Fitday - I'm in. Here's my journal -

We're leaving for a family reunion out of state in an hour and I'm not sure what my computer access will be like so I might need to catch up when I get home. Just FYI.

Ok, here's my link. Today is my birthday, so it might not be my most nutritious day. Though that really depends on if the hubby buys me any cake (and I really hope he does...!)
