My Three Week Diet Plan

A couple of weeks ago, I received an email from Beth at PureFoods Fresh Start.  She made me an offer I couldn't refuse:  three weeks' worth of meals in exchange for blogging about my experience using this diet plan.  I think I may have actually applauded at my desk while reading the email.  This is exactly the kind of portion-controlled meal plan I need to get my weight loss moving again.  And someone else has done all the planning and cooking!  All I have to do is warm up the food and eat it.

So, today, a gigantic box full of a week's worth of meals arrived.  (I took a photo, but I am utterly exhausted from driving six hours to and from a funeral . . . so next time, perhaps, I'll post some photos.)  I unpacked and put everything in the fridge.  The meals were still cold, having been packed in a cooler which was padded with giant ice packs.   We were all very impressed by the packaging.

Then I warned my kids not to touch my food.  I have teenage boys, liable to eat anything that can't run away from them.

You can click around on the website for PureFoods Fresh Start and see the sample menus and read the Frequently Asked Questions.   I will be eating only the food provided by PureFoods Fresh Start for the next three weeks.  I cannot wait to see how much weight I will lose.  (And, yes, I plan to do this despite holiday parties.  What an awesome way to get through the holiday season.)

You can sign up for a weekly contest to win a Three Day Sampler here.

Tomorrow morning, I will be eating Southwestern Skillet of Scrambled Eggs, Hash, Salsa and Cheddar Cheese.  My snack will be an orange and string cheese.  My lunch will be Grilled Chicken Breast Wrap with Grilled Vegetables and Honey Dijon Mustard.  Dinner?  Turkey Meatballs and Spaghetti Squash with Mixed Vegetables.  And I even get a treat--a White Chocolate Chip Cookie.

I know.  I am very, very lucky.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Reason #87 I'm glad I lost weight

Funerals.

You know how family events come up and you realize that you are not going to be able to lose fifty pounds in the three days before the event occurs?

For once, I am not trying to figure out a reason not to go to the funeral just so I can avoid having people seeing me fat.  (Tell me I am not the only one who avoided events because I considered myself just too fat to go?)  The last time we had a family event, I weighed 55 more pounds than I do today.  *Whew*

I'm off for a three hour drive at 7 a.m. . . . and then back home tomorrow afternoon . . . talk to you then!

Official Thursday Weigh-In

Howdy.

I'm weighing 171 today.

How about you?

(Tomorrow--afternoon, likely because I'm going to a funeral three hours from here that begins at 11 a.m.--I will tell you about my thrilling new diet plan which will begin December 1.  Stay tuned.  I have never been more excited about limiting my food intake . . . )

The Last Supper

You know that feeling when you are planning a diet and the panic about being deprived compels you to overeat?  Geneen Roth talks about this a lot and says this is one of the reasons why diets don't work.  (I love her work, but I still believe I can make a diet work and not eventually regain all my weight.)

Anyway, I have Something Big coming up, a New Plan . . . starting on December 1.  (Details coming soon!)  And the very thought that I cannot eat popcorn in the movie theater makes me want to drive straight to the movie theater so I can eat the largest popcorn they have.

Luckily for me, I am too busy to drive anywhere, let alone a movie theater!

I updated everyone's records . . . so we're all set for tomorrow's weigh in.  (You'll read this in the morning--I'm writing it at midnight--and wonder what in the world I'm talking about.)  I was in a big hurry to get all the records updated and may not have emailed you . . . but I did fix the records.

By the way, I also updated my blogroll and removed the inactive blogs listed on it.  If you have a weight-loss blog you'd like to have listed, just let me know.  My blogroll is reciprocal, so if you blogroll me, I will return the favor.  Just let me know.

And now . . . time to sleep a little before the madness begins again.

In a pinch

For the first year of my diet new lifestyle, I scorned fast food.  When I drove-through, I'd have a Diet Coke and a salad, but never, ever anything else.

Now, though, I've softened my stringent guidelines.  I once ate salad with my fingers while driving, but I've had a mind-set shift and that seems a little outrageous to me.

We went to Long Beach on a quick overnight trip (three hours in the car each way).  We left on Black Friday--and I went to Target that morning at 8 a.m. to buy cat food.  I know.  Poor planning on my part, but I had no idea we were out of cat food.  I noted the long line in electronics and decided to stick with my short list (cat food and . . . oh, I bought two DVDs).  I returned home by 9 a.m., packed up everyone (so much packing for just one night!) and cooked my bowl of oatmeal.

One of my sons was hunting for something (his shoes?) and distracted me just as I dumped my oatmeal into a bowl so I could shovel it down quickly before we bolted out the door.  Then, distracted by the teenager, I sprinkled my oatmeal with a generous shake of . . . POULTRY SEASONING.  It was unfixable, so I left home with no breakfast.

By lunchtime, we were all ravenous and welcomed a pit-stop at Dairy Queen.  I ordered a kid's cheeseburger meal, ate it slowly and found it to be enough.  Fine.  Easy to eat.  Portion-controlled.

Circumstances prevented me from eating dinner (we went clam-digging at dinner-time, and after dinner I found some free wi-fi so I could work online for two hours).  At 8 p.m., I was cold and starving.  McDonald's was close by . . . so I had a Happy Meal.

You know, this is real life.  That's how I handled my hunger.  And I'm all right with it.  I chose small portions.  I didn't go crazy.  I think that's all right.

(Here we are, at the beach.  We had a great time . . . and more importantly, I thought my face looked thin in the pictures.)

Official Thursday Weigh-In

Happy Thanksgiving!

I weighed in at 169.6 this morning.

How about you?

(And, yes, I realize that I haven't posted your weigh-in stats from last week and the week before . . . but I will get to that.  Soon.  Very soon.  It's been crazy around here.)

Have a great Thanksgiving . . . enjoy every bite you eat . . . for tomorrow, we pay the price!

She stress-eats, too

I heart PastaQueen's blog.  She talks about stress-eating here . . . and I find her confession so comforting.   It's true:  eating cookies does make you feel better.  Until you're done eating cookies, that is.  Ditto for ice cream.

The Biggest Loser

Did anyone else cry during "The Biggest Loser" last night?  Something about reunions make me tear up every time.

I was sorry to see Kae voted out, but amazed and impressed by her tiny body at the end of the show!  Wow!  (Here's a recap for those of you who missed it.)  She's lost 88 pounds since she began.  (Which, of course, makes me think WHY HAVEN'T I LOST 88 POUNDS in the same stretch of time?)

(Okay, I only wanted to lost 76 pounds, but still.)

I am worried about my weigh-in tomorrow.  Just so you know.  I am not looking forward to it.  Thus, I will be avoiding salt today in an effort to eliminate The Bloat.

Too Fat for New Zealand

Apparently, you can be too fat to emigrate to New Zealand.  Check out this news story.  That is all.  I just thought you'd like to know.

Pumpkin pie galore!

Here's a pumpkin pie recipe . . . only one Weight Watchers point per piece.

Here is another version which involves instant sugar-free pudding.

Wait!  Here's a pumpkin pie recipe from the Weight Watchers site itself

This one is spiced with ginger, among other things

Did you know that the pie crust itself has a ton of calories?  (Of course you did.)  I solve this dilemma by cooking pumpkin pie without a crust.  The filling is the good part anyway.

(There is no easy solution for pecan pie, my husband's favorite.  If you must indulge--I must--you just have to have the teeniest, tiniest portion imaginable.)

Are you cooking Thanksgiving dinner?  I am . . . and now that I've got the pumpkin pie situation figured out, I'm looking forward to it.
