Late Weigh-In
I weighed in today at 187. That's a gain of almost three pounds, but I have to say that when I peered at my face in the mirror, puffy little pillowy eyelids looked back at me. I have lately been so puffy when I wake up. I'm going to make a much procrastinated appointment with a doctor just to make sure everything is fine and dandy inside this body of mine.
I decided to get my increasingly chubbier butt onto the exercise bike after that weigh-in and rode while reading The Incredible Shrinking Critic: 75 Pounds and Counting: My Excellent Adventure in Weight Loss.
And so then I felt better.
I don't really think I gained three pounds last week . . . I didn't eat nearly enough for that, but there's always room for improvement in my diet.
Also? I'm going to come up with a strategy to handle my late nights at the computer. (I work online until midnight three nights a week.) I really do feel like if I can just hang on until fall when my youngest goes to school, I can carve out a little time to focus on my body. The trick will be hanging on until then and adjusting to reality. And reality right now is super busy.

I am weighing in with a small move in the right direction. I weighed in at 219.9 this morning. I'm in the 210s which is exciting since it was before Christmas when I weighed that little at the OB's office. I promise that if we decide to have any more babies...I'm spending my whole pregnancy in the pool or on the treadmill!
Mel, I'm glad to hear that your spirits have lifted. I have had days when this return journey seemed too insurmountable. I mean, didn't I do this two years ago??? Only to lose my efforts in 9 months??? SIGH But, at 10 pounds a month, I can be back to goal by Christmas...and we're planning to get sunburns for Christmas this year...so I can stay motivated...I may even buy a cute swimsuit in my goal size to keep it visually in front of me...and take out some of my favorite skinny clothes!!!

Hey Mel check out my before and now pics!
Praying things start going better for you both with your hectic schedule and your diet. Its amazing hwo the things that are happening in our lives really effect the ability to lose weight. Its not all about will power or lack thereof! Its so much more complex. Heres to a good week for you.

I'm sure you've already thought of this, but... be sure to get your thyroid checked. (This coming from someone - me - who is woefully undersupervised medically.) What I've gathered in my reading is that while a thyroid problem can't be blamed for gross obesity, it can contribute to small weight gains, inability to lose weight, low metabolism, etc. I have a friend who developed thyroid problems out of the blue in her mid-30's, and think of Oprah!

It sounds like you unbelievably busy. Those are the times I have found myself eating instead of sleeping. I know it is not a good trade off, but it happens. You can see that it will be very different soon, and I'm guessing that you will start to see success again.

I concur that your schedule is unbelievably busy - and I admire your dedication and energy! Working and homeschooling - I couldn't do both effectively. Take comfort in the fact that the cherries are out, the blueberries are here but expensive, and the peaches are coming! Those will make good late night snacks, eh? Don't know where they fall on the GI scale, but they're better than chocolate, and french fries yes? This week I was down to 221.4.

I've just come across your blog and think it is wonderful -- especially the archive posts "Hello I'm Fat" and "How to Get Fat in 10 Easy Steps". Both ring so true with me.
(1) I think I also started a few mini diets during my teens, when I weighed only around 130 - 140 lbs and was by no means "fat", but due to the number of "skinny" girls around me thought that I was.
(2) I have also often thought of writing some guidelines for the skinny size zero's who say they can't put on weight / they forget to eat etc about exactly how it is done !!!
The only archive post I was not able to click on was the "My Back Stabbing So Called Friend" entry and I was intrigued by that as I recently wrote on my own blog (David Darling Parts 1, 2 and 3) how some back stabbing bitches during my teenage years caused me a lot of problems.
Nice to find your blog + best wishes with your future journey.

Hey, Mel!
Hang in there. Your attitude and perseverance will carry you through. I just did a thorough thyroid panel through my chiropractor. She said the normal thyroid blood panel is too broad. So I got to collect urine and saliva for 24 hours. Yuck. Waiting on the results. I also have a nodule in my thyroid, so there's something going on. I'm hoping the results and treatment will lead to fat loss and muscle gain as the literature mentioned. (fingers crossed!) ;-)
So yeah, I agree with the possibility of a thyroid problem. A busy schedule can be a real health killer. Hope you get something figured out. Sending hugs.
