Hey, it's June! Let's exercise!

People, oh, people.  May wasn't so good on the exercise front.  I kept track on my bathroom calendar.  I exercised the last three days of April and I was so optimistic, so proud of myself when I made it four days in a row, then . . . but after that?  Dismal.

In fact, during the month of May, I managed a grand total of EIGHT days of exercise.  Eight.  (Better than "ate," I suppose, but not good.)  I had all kinds of great reasons:

1)  I was too tired.
2)  I was too depressed.
3)  I didn't want to.
4)  I'd rather walk than ride the exercise bike, but I couldn't get away from my house, so I did nothing instead.
5)  I was too lazy.

So, putting that behind me, I've decided to turn that frown upside down, to atone for my failure, to simply start over.  And so I issue this challenge to you as well as myself . . . how about exercising every day in June?  Yes?  (Oh, you might not get this until tomorrow, June 2, so you are excused for June 1.)

I exercised today, though I did not want to, though I could think of so many other things to do (reclining on my bed, reading a novel, for instance).

Will you join me?  I'm not making any promises about July or August, but I think I can exercise for the whole month of June.  All it takes is commitment and a little creative scheduling.

Swizzlepop is doing an exercise challenge over at www.jigglelessexercisechallenge.com (I think that's the address) if you're interested in joining us!

I think your idea of exercising every day is great....even if it's just 15 minutes it will help establish the habit. Sometimes that's all we need to get back on track is to establish one little habit then we can add onto it next month.

Good luck and don't give up!

I'm joining Swizzlepop's challenge this month, too. Got a good walk in today to start June off. Will be doing weights tomorrow and probably walking again with my husband who is recovering from a total hip replacement.

Well, I will do something each day but I might count things like "walking my son to kindergarten", okay?

Great idea - and to help, the government has the WOMAN Challenge up and running again. Even though the challenge started on May 11, you can still get lots of great ideas and support to help keep you motivated through the month! (see http://www.womenshealth.gov/woman)

Good luck!

You have a deal. I know with all of these hormones floating in my body, I probably NEED the outlet of exercise. Today I will swim laps. I'm not promising anything sustained for more than 15 minutes, but I am promising more walks with my kids and, in short, more MOTION. For the sake of disclosure, I'm going to be pretty lenient on what I consider exercise, okay? Vacuuming the whole house might have to count one day, but I promise to be honest.

I'll do it. I've been needing a reason outside of my own mental "shoulds". Thanks for the push.

I don't do Sundays, but I think I can do the rest of the month (I hope). I went to Curves today, so that's a good start.

Yes, I can do this. I have really got to get better at my eating habits. I wish I could figure out what is missing in my life that is making me turn to food again. ugh

Inspired by people like you, I started Weight Watchers and working with a personal trainer at the gym on the Air Force base in late April. I've lost 8 pounds so far and look forward to exercising. I would love to join this group! I took last Sunday off after exercising on vacation, but I did get it in yesterday and today. I only work with the trainer once or twice a week now that school is out. Thanks for the challenge. I am concerned about the exercise part getting harder to keep the weight coming off. By the way, I started at 172 pounds and I'm 5'2".

I would love to join you! I have been feeling so dumpy and depressed since my doctor laid out the details about how bad my right knee is. Instead of pouting and not exercising, I would love to get into the habit of doing some exercise every day, even if I can't bike, walk, or do aerobics like other gals. Every little bit of movement helps, right? :)

How is your exercise going, Mel? I was so happy- I exercised for the whole length of "The Deadliest Catch" and part of "The Alaskan Experiement". *laughs* (Guess who watches tv while lifting weights...)

Yes, I'm joining you! I really need to make daily exercise more of a habit.

(Of course, I am going to the Gulf Coast in a couple of weeks, so I don't know how that will factor in - just have to see what happens.)

Hi Mel!
I heard of you from Melzworld and invited myself over.
Congratulations on your weight loss. Way to be a motivating leader to so many other women. Awesome.
May I share my Reader's Digest Condensed version of my story with you?
On January 1st I chose TWELVE goals that I do EVERY DAY. Yes. Every stinkin' day. Four of them are for my health: Drink 8 glasses of water EVERY day, Walk for at least 10 minutes EVERY day, take care of my neck EVERY day, and post my weight every day on my blog. I have lost one pound a week.

(I also do not eat after 7 pm. But that isn't one of the twelve.)

I haven't missed a SINGLE DAY.

May I share my hot tip with you?

I KEEP MY WORD TO MYSELF. I told myself I would do these 12 things EVERY DAY and I HAVE. Because if someone promised my KID something and didn't do it, I'd kick their butt! Not keeping promises isn't cool with me. So why was it cool with me when I DIDN'T KEEP my promises to ME? So I kicked my own butt and changed.

So, even if it is midnight, and I have SEVEN MORE GLASSES OF WATER TO DRINK, AND EVEN IF I CAN THINK OF A DOZEN REASONS WHY DRINKING SO CLOSE TO BEDTIME IS IDIOTIC, I STAY UP AND DRINK THEM AND HATE WATER WITH EVERY OUNCE OF MY BEING AND GET UP AND PEE ALL NIGHT BUT I DRINK IT BY GOLLY BECAUSE I PROMISED ME I WOULD. I don't "TRY" to drink them. I don't "THINK" I can drink them. I don't "SKIP IT" just for today. I DRINK THEM. End of story.

Thanks for letting me share my story.

Thank you for sharing yours with the world and for providing inspiration on your blog.

The world needs more you's.

Good luck with your goal!

Wendy aka Wendster

p.s. And what is this nonsense about not being able to get down to 150? If you WANT to be 150, GO BE 150.

I am reading Psycho Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz. He is a plastic surgeon who knows how to get you past the hurdle of limiting beliefs about our self image. Because whatever we BELIEVE is true of ourselves, or BELIEVE is possible for ourselves, we MAKE TRUE for ourselves so we can be right. It's incredibly enlightening. I highly recommend it.
