Yesterday, I had a little bit of free time between shifts. The younger kids were at the pool with my husband. So I went for a walk.
I returned home an hour and fifteen minutes later with a blister on my toe.
Today, I thought I'd just ride my exercise bike (easier on the toes!), but my husband (God bless him) took the kids to the pool again, so I was free to leave the house. I drove to a nice walking trail and walked for an hour.
It feels great to walk. And I am in love with my tiny iPod. Music in my ears really makes the walk go by quickly and easily.
However. . . OUCH! I am so sore from the unaccustomed movement that I am hobbling around. That soreness is that good kind, though, the kind that reminds me that one day I might develop firm muscles instead of floppy fat.
Also, it's better to never stop walking than to have to break in your feet all over again. (My shoes are good, it's just that my feet have lost their toughness!)

I love walking but it did take a while to build up to what i do now ;) For me there's nothing better than fresh air and my mp3 when i walk through the woods!!

I feel your pain. Literally. I just started working out again this week, and I kicked off with a seven and a half mile walk. What was I thinking???

How true it is! The muscles rebel at sudden expectations, while we remind ourselves how much the new activity is good and beneficial for the future. I relate 100% to what you've written!

I recommend a good pedicure :)

Ok, I hear you, dear. I kind of took a little break from every day walking after my 5K in May, and this week I got back to it. I go for about an hour, and I've done Thursday, Friday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I even grabbed a friend and got her to walk with me this week. My feet are ok, but I have an odd pain in my hip. Hoping it will go away.

Ugh! Injuries can really derail the best of intentions. My hip was bothering me so I didn't run/work out for a couple weeks. I finally hopped back on the trail the other day and this morning I stubbed my toes on brick. HARD. So hard that my toe is purple and I'm hobbling around. I'm on a business trip and I'm eating horribly, so it couldn't have happened at a worse time. You've inspired me to look for a stationary bike, should be less painful on my poor piggies.
