So, today starts my second week of Couch to 5K. This running program is only three days a week and, at least for the first two weeks, only thirty minutes a day. Easy, right?
After the first day, I was sore in places I haven't been sore in a long, long time. After the third session, only my right heel hurt. After two days "off", my heel hardly hurts at all. So, yay.
I'm sort of dreading tomorrow (it's 12:45 a.m.), though. I have to run for TWO CONSECUTIVE minutes at a time. Which, when I say that, sounds really funny. Seriously. I can run for TWO minutes at a time. Of course, I have to do it over and over again until I'm gasping for breath.
I hope that sooner or later I won't hate it. I'm sure that day will come. I do remember the last time I got in shape that I liked the actual time exercising. At this point, I'm just doing it in faith that eventually, I'll like it.
I'm also reading a book a reader recommended called Eating Less. So far, I'm just saying to myself, "This is my choice. I can eat whatever I want. I can eat as much as I want." I'd better ZOOM through this part quickly and get to the part that helps me stop actually eating whatever I want, as much as I want!
No, seriously. The point is to free yourself from the pattern of addictive eating, which clearly is something I need to figure out. I believe there is hope. There's always hope unless you quit trying.
Anyway, here's to more running! And less over eating!
How are you doing? Check in and let me know.
There is hope. Keep the faith it will get easier.
I'm heading to the gym now to re-new my membership and start that couch to 5K program. Wish me luck.

This year I finished med school, passed boards, moved across the country, started a job, and had an infant/1 year old during that time...and I've lost a solid 15 lbs...hoping to be 20 by the end of the year. Much, much less than I had hoped, but I eat much better than ever before. Far from perfect, but lots of whole foods, and I'm cooking nutritious meals for my family. I need to get motivated on the exercise front. I just bought some dance dvd exercise videos that I'm hoping will be fun. I was good about exercise last year...and since moving in May haven't done a dang thing.
I want to thank you, Mel. I signed up to "diet naked" just prior to getting pregnant, then again after having my daughter. I signed in at about 224, and though it's slow, I'm now 185 on an average day. My long-term health and that of my entire family's has been changed, and your website was a big part of that. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Holding steady and once I get rid of this ugly cold, I will be running just like you!
I have never liked running... It's the feeling you have when you are done that keeps me doing it!
Have you registered for your race yet???????

I was doing the C25K over the summer but I stopped when the weather turned cold and dark.
I have many friends that have had great success with it!
