I am eating less. I am. I'm reading this book, Eating Less: Say Goodbye to Overeating and it's really helping me. (Someone here recommended it to me.)
I have read a dozens of books about diet and nutrition. I've read Geneen Roth's books about "feeding the hungry heart." I've read countless articles with endless tips about avoiding foods that make you fat. I scan the magazines while in the checkout line and see diets in many that usually involve "walking your weight off."
Yet, this is a different approach, something I've never heard before. Perhaps I should have been reading books about addiction all along because this book, which focuses on stopping addictive eating (and thus overeating) makes so much sense to me. (Okay. I admit it. I am an addict. I'm addicted to overeating.)
(Here's a little article she wrote which covers some of the ideas.)
Anyway, I feel hopeful.
Also, I continue to train for a 5K using the Couch to 5K app on my iPhone. (I use the one called C25K which has a green background and running man for the icon--some of you have asked.)
Here's a summary of the plan. I use an iPhone app and run outside, but you can find podcasts and other helpful information right here.
I'm in my third week, now running for 3 consecutive minutes at a time. I have to tell myself, "You can do anything for three minutes" during the last 3-minute segment. And what do you know? I can.
You can, too, I bet.

Thanks for posting this and making me consider an addiction to overeating. I read the article and it is powerful. It's certainly something I need to understand, because I find myself in the same diet/binge pattern. I'm just not sure it all applies to me.
Good luck on your Couch to 5K!

YAY!!! You probably couldn't hear me shout for joy across the pond (the Atlantic!) but I am so proud of you, Mel. Even though I don't know you, I think you are a wonderful inspiration. Being able to post your hopes and frustrations, and now, your victories so we can rejoice with you! Way to go. KEEP UP the great, AWESOME effort and take it ONE DAY at a time. I look forward to your (future) post when you (victoriously) post about being in control of eating, losing weight, and feeling great because of all the fitness you are doing. What a praise. All the best!

I'm also on my third week on the 5K program, right there with you!!! I used to run 10Ks!!! I WILL again in the spring! I'm going to check out that book you mentioned. Lately I have been listening to Renee Stephens Podcasts (Inside Out Weight Loss), she is great and a real inspiration, I listen to them in the car, I have a long commute.

I did Week 4 Day 1 yesterday. Didn't want to, but I really felt good for the rest of the day. It's amazing what a difference it can make to your mood.
Have you signed up for a 5k run? That's always a good motivator too.
Keep going!

Hi, I hope you realize the hope, value, laughs and support you bring to your readers inluding me. I took your advice and read the Geneen Roth aricle and have since followed up with ready a couple of her audiobooks on iTnes. I cried through most of it..it described much of my childhood struggles and the impacts to my life as an overeating adult. Thank you so much for this reference...I hope it will make a significant difference in my life.
