You guys. I'm having good days, followed by really bad days. You know Geneen Roth says every diet is followed an a binge . . . inevitably.
I don't want to believe that is true but maybe it is. It explains why a person who has successfully lost weight would gain that weight back. It's just maintaining balance in the universe.
I intend to write here but once again I've had a jam-packed day and now I need to get to bed. It's 1:21 a.m. and tomorrow will be a really busy day (again).
Today was a bad day in terms of eating. I won't even detail it. (It's for your own good.)
Yesterday was bad, too. Saturday . . . bad. Until then, I was doing great, eating only what I was supposed to eat . . . sigh.
Okay, so back to basics tomorrow. I'm beginning to fear that I will never actually lose weight.

I think it's time to let go of the fear. Just keep taking one minute at a time and do your best to make the best choices and forgive yourself when you slip up. Keep the faith you will get there. Stay strong and rock on!

Why is it if the doctor tells us we can't eat before a test or something we have no problems not eating all day and even deal with the hunger. Why does external accountability like that work? It shows we do have control over eating then, right?
I am in this insanity with you. I will not let you give up. Food is not bad. You are not bad. You can do this. I can do this.
Talking out loud with you...with my keyboard...with what's in my head.

I think part of the problem is that you said when u were doing "good" you were only eating certain foods. I lost 50 pounds in 5 months and i ate reese's peanut butter cups (210 calories for 2 pack), many a whopper jr with no mayo from burger king (260 calories). For me i couldn't loose weight ONLY eating salad, yogurt, lean meats.. exc. I like healthy food, and ate mostly them; but i also like chocolate and hamburgers. I could never give up the foods i love. I had to find a way to have what i like in a small scal every day and the healthy foods at the same time. Whatever your "problem" or trigger foods are there is a moderate replacement! If you're into salty buy the 100 cal bags of popcorn. If its ice cream the skinny cow 150 cal portions are awesome. Don't try to eliminate things, find new replacements. I love Mexican so i make it @ home with light butter and low fat ingredients! You can do this, just don't try to stop eating what u love, find new options!

I had not heard that Geneen Roth quote. I have to agree with her, although perhaps not so dramatically.
When I worked with a cognitive behaviour therapist to figure out why I was overeat, I learned that I overeat if I feel like I am on a diet (it doesn't matter if I'm on a diet or not).
So the key for me is to not feel like I'm on a diet. I'm loosing weight slowly, but that's ok with me.
(The other key to my plan was working with a cognitive behaviour therapist for a year to change my eating behaviour.)
From what I learned, many people are affected by dieting the same way I am, which also explains why so many people regain weight they lost on a diet. And I agree with you, I didn't want to believe it either.

I really like the honesty of your posts and I think a lot of what you are going through, or have been through is similar to my situation.
I just wanted to offer a few words of encouragement and dispel your fears of never losing the weight to yes, you CAN do it, and it WILL come off, just don't give up.
Also try to find what is triggering it, like the above-post mentioned about behavior.
I notice whenever I get off track and starting losing control, I have to dig deep to find what is really going on...journal it, get back on track, and get out and get some exercise.
You can do it.

I recently read this great quote, "Don't throw in the towel. Use it to wipe off the sweat and keep on going!" Just take it one day at a time from now on and don't regret your actions that are in the past. You can do this!

I love this post. I am impressed with this. And,good days always comes after bad ones. Be prepared for everytime & think positive in every way. I like your attitude & the way you handle yourself. It is easy to gain weight soon but its really hard to loose weight faster.

I know what you mean. I try to find changes that I think I can maintain for a lifetime. Otherwise you are just setting yourself up for failure because the weight will come back as soon as you return to your normal routine.

I like your blog, especially posts like "Can you diet successfully without being obsessed with your diet?".
As I run similar blog in Croatian, I would like to know if you would allow me to translete some of your texts,
giving you a credit and link to your site, of course.
Please let me know if it's OK, many thanks in advance.
