So, I had one fantastic week! Lost five pounds. Then along came Halloween.
It was like an avalanche of mini-candy bars buried me. It was bad, very, very bad.
I gained those five pounds back.
Today, though, I am 100% committed to myself and my weight loss plan because I just found out that once again, I am flying to New York in December for the office Christmas party.
So I am deterrmined to use this as the impetus I need to get serious and get some weight off!
Today I ate a 'clean' diet. For breakfast, old-fashioned oatmeal. Lunch was a big salad at Souplantation. Dinner was green beans and some barbecued chicken breast. Snack tonight was a Granny Smith apple and some fat-free popcorn.
Earlier in the day, I laced up my sneakers and went on a two mile walk with my 9-year old daughter. I used the RunKeeper app on my iPhone. I loved having the feedback about our time, distance and speed.
I'm thinking I'll ride my exercise bike tomorrow, then on Wednesday, go to the YMCA to get a lesson in using the equipment there. (We joined recently but I haven't yet actually exercised there.)
Wish me luck! I'm going to try to lose as much as I can in the nearly six weeks I have before my trip to NYC!

Hang in there!!! I'm on a roll myself, literally and figuratively, so I'll see what I can do here on the other side of the country in the next 6 weeks. Of course, that includes Thanksgiving and may as well include Christmas, but thankfully NO trip to NY or anywhere else!

Freakin' Halloween, I gained 4.2 pounds the week of Halloween. But, I put things into perspective; did I actually overeat the equivalent of 27 Big Macs? I'm sure some of it is a gain, but not all of it, some of it is undigested tootsie rolls and water retention.
Anyhow, I don't know if this makes you feel any better, but do you think that you overate the equivalent of 32 Big Macs?? Or 700 mini Tootsie Rolls or 220 Fun-size chocolate bars?
Thankfully for all, Halloween is over and you are back on the clean eating track... Good luck!

Hi Mel,
Just checking in... wishing you words of encouragement. My scale finally moved a couple pounds down after three weeks of tracking my food. I'm hoping to continue to lose but have a week-long road trip planned for Thanksgiving. Something tells me that won't be good news for my scale...

Halloween certainly is a challenge especially when you have kids fresh back from trick or treating with overflowing buckets of candy badness! But thats done with now, you are back on the right path, and I'm sure having New York as a goal will serve you well
Good Luck!!
