This first week is so important. If I don't see results, will I falter? Will I give up?
I'm staying off the scale until Monday morning. While I appreciate feedback, if I get on the scale too early to see results, I will feel discouraged.
How often do you weigh yourself?
I am worried about weighing myself again on Monday, even though I am eating what I am supposed to andn getting exercise. (Yesterday, I didn't have time to go to the YMCA, so I rode my exercise bike at home. Tonight, I'll be heading back to the YMCA, though.)
I'm heading in the right direction so I just need to keep moving.

I did my first weight in in months on Sunday. It was about what I expected, but I'm not happy about it. I'm normally jump on the scale everyday because that's how I've held myself accountable. This time around I'm not sure. I'm trying not to weigh-in again until Monday.
It sounds like you've got the right attitude and we know you can do this!!

I'm glad to see your blogging again and I just wanted to say that no matter what the scale says you ARE making progress - you're building up muscle little by little, you're detoxing the bad food from your system, and nourishing yourself with good, healthy food, and you're living positively. Those things are always there for you, even when the scale is being stubborn. Best of luck to you, and happy new year!

Hi Mel,
I stumbled across your blog a couple of months ago whilst looking for some weight loss inspiration... the long and short of it is that I ended up reading your entire blog (yes, from the very beginning) over the course of a couple of weeks - I would read it while on the bike at the gym so I suppose I have you to thank for the extra miles I clocked up!
I really admire your steely determination; you never give up starting over and that's admirable.
DON'T GO NEAR THE SCALES! I'm in the midst of a war with not one, not two, but THREE sets of scales (home, gym, partner's house) and yesterday after an ill-advised evening gym weigh in, I almost threw in the towel and had a weight-induced teary fit in the middle of the place.
By all means weigh in on Monday, but DON'T take it as the be all and end all. Weight fluctuates for so many reasons... and becuase the smaller the interval between weigh-ins, the smaller the change will be, you may well see a number you don't like.
Besides all that, isn't it crazy that when we don't see the loss we want, we (or at least I) am compelled to go eat my body weight in chocolate to comfort myself? Isn't that just illogical? You don't see the result you want to see, so you intentionally make it even worse?
We are an odd bunch, us women (I say that because my other half will work out, eat when hungry and not give it much more thought).
Okay well I've written an essay so I'll leave it at that - just don't lose heart, think about the good that all that healthy food and exercise is doing to your body, even if you can't see tangible results yet.

When I diet, I go crazy for that scale... wanting to see every .01 of a pound. But... I am going to do my best to only weigh in once a week. I think I may take my scale to my parents for a while.:)

For this diet I am trying to not weigh myself at all. I know what I weighed at the doc last time but have not weighed myself yet.

Sounds good to me, not always monitoring your weight on the scale is a new and refreshing way to lose weight. Great post :)

I'm only weighing myself every 20 days, my diet is for 100. I have a specific goal, but i also took my measurements so that I could compare my weightloss that way as well.

Dieting is not just about food and eating. Actually it is a change in whole life style. Most diet conscious people think that dieting have to mean “all-or-nothing”. But it is not true. I am also diet conscious but I never skip even one time meal. I am a huge fan of home cooked food. I use protein and fats in my food. It seems to make me feel great all the time.
